Onam The Festival Of Love, Gaiety And Harmony

Onam the harvest festival of Kerala is celebrated every year and last for ten years. It marks the new year according to Malayalam calender. The festival of love, gaiety and harmony is celebrated by people of all classes, creed and caste.

On the auspicious day of Onam, the entrance to every home is decorated with Athapookalam design. It is an artistic decoration of flowers in different colors.

Onam-feast is the main attraction of the day. Puddings, rice cakes, banana, chips, papads and many kinds of curries are served on banana leaves.

Boat- race is also held at various places in the state of Kerala. Nehru Trophy Boat Race is celebrated at Alleppey which is the most famous among all boat races.
